SAS's Brushed with Gold

Meet our newest herd member "Brush", a TWH colt. Here he is at 4 months when we went to see him for the first time. His pedigree traces back to Trigger Jr who was owned by Roy Rodgers. We purchased him from SAS (Smooth as Silk) Walking Horses in Loma Colorado. We bought our gelding "Indy" from the same place several years ago.

When we lost our fabulous gelding Opie in 2005 my mind kept returning to the old saying "he who has a yearling has hope" and the meaning was not lost on us. So here's to bright hopes for the future and the rewarding feeling that comes from raising and training a horse yourself. Scroll down for photos of Brush in training to be a future trail horse.

This is Brush's sire Smokey Red Mack, a handsome fellow with a calm disposition.
Brush's dam SAS's Golddust Riverdoll. Isn't she gorgeous?

Brush's new life
Brush frolicking at his new home.
Brush goes for a walk and sees some plastic flags up the road. He thought they were scarey at first, but then was fine.
Brush on a hike exploring and learning to be brave by himself.
Brush with a sweatshirt on his back.
Learning to flex and give to pressure. He's doing really well with these lessons and also lowers his head with a little poll pressure.
Desensitizing with a plastic bag. He accepted it very quickly and isn't really afraid of this type of thing.
Desensitizing with a tarp. Another lesson that was no big deal to Brush.
Learning to walk on the tarp, which is also a good desensitizing excercize, as well as teaching them to cross unfamilair obstacles.
Todd ponying him from Jypsi. We will begin to pony him on trails this summer.
Getting him used to ropes flinging around. Another excercize that made him sleepy.
Todd and his eager student!
Indy and Brush playing in a blizzard. Indy is also a Tennesee Walking Horse.
