Want to save a few bucks and get your Traditional scale casting faster? Rose Studios will pay you $10.00 to do the casting clean up work that we normally do before a resin is sent out. If you are someone who paints your horses, or has prepped horses to be painted before, this would be well within your skill range. Interested? Read on......
"Belly Button" on a UVM Yesteryear casting. Removal is easy with a Dremel tool or rasp and sandpaper. Below is a pesky neck seam that is on both Mephisto, Khan, and UVM Yesteryear castings. This can be smoothed out with an emery board, sandpaper, Rio Rondo scrapers, etc......
Despite all our hard work and optimism, we are still painfully behind on our castings. After some brainstorming, we realized that the bottle neck is in the cleanup work on the castings before we ship them out. Todd is able to cast up to 10 horses a day, but it's the clean up work that takes both of us the most time.

It takes anywhere from a half hour to two hours to get one ready to be shipped out. This work includes removal of the 'belly button' (photo above), any seams that are larger than normal (photo above), and the filling of any large air pockets in the hooves. Some castings have no air pockets in the hooves, but usually at least one hoof needs this extra attention. This can be done by you by opening up part of the hole with an exacto blade and packing it with epoxy.

We will be shipping out raw castings in the order they were paid for in full, but they will normally ship out sooner than if you wanted us to do the initial preparation. When Todd gets a bunch of castings done, he looks them over and sets aside the ones that need to be backfilled. This is when there are very thin areas in the groin/crotch area. Todd will drill a hole in the belly button and pour in some two part liquid foam that expands and strengthens these thin area. We don't want you guys to have to do that. Any castings that don't need this step will be sent out to people who request raw castings. For example, if Todd casts 10 horses and 4 don't need to be backfilled, he looks on his shipping list and sends them out to the next people who wanted raw castings.
